Between Two Points [CECIL]

Dominated by all you hated It wasn't often that Kouhei saw the sun rise... he wasn't much of a morning person, generally sleeping in well past noon. But last night, he hadn't slept, he didn't even feel tired. His mind had been racing through the night, questions, what-if's and other varied thoughts occupying him away from his bed. More than once had he found himself pacing his room, phone in hand as he stared at the blank screen, his partner silently watching him from the corner of the room. Rin had thought about asking if he was okay on multiple occasions, but thought it better to remain quiet, knowing that Kouhei had to figure this out on his own. He'd even taken to getting into his car for a (rather long) drive, returning home only to sit in his car and continue to stare at his phone. Until the clock turned to 12:35 and he finally sent a text: Ceci, you hungry? I'll buy lunch. Meet me at Tsurumaki Woods... you know, the place I used to drag you to a lot when we were younger. I'll be there around 1, but take your time. With a questioning look from the Renamon, he quickly explained where to meet him (since the Renamon didn't quite fit in his car, but it was no matter, the fox had his own ways of quickly getting around the city) and turned the car on once more, leaving the apartment complex behind. Even Kouhei had to admit, driving around with a head full of jumbled thoughts perhaps wasn't the best of things to be doing - but he had to get there. He had to get this off of his chest. He had to at least give it one shot. Truth be told, the drive was a blur for Kouhei - he didn't remember much of it, his body pretty much on autopilot as he found his way to the cafe, pulling up and parking his car a fair amount of distance away from the others, but still in sight where he could keep an eye on it from the deck, where he'd find a table for the group to sit at. Stepping from the car, shutting and locking the door behind him, Kouhei walked toward the front door to alert the staff that he was there, the table that he'd be at and that he was waiting on someone else to join him. As to be expected, when he was finished with his small list, he walked back onto the deck, he found his partner waiting for him - ordering a coffee had been added, not only to help keep him awake, despite his lack of sleepiness at the moment, and to help him well... not look as tired as he knew he probably did. Last thing he wanted was to look like shit when Cecil came - especially not with the question he had. "And now we wait...?" Rin questioned in a more masculin voice than what many would expect to come from the fox. "And now we wait. I don't want to rush him, so we might be here for a bit." Hopefully... the wait will be worth it... He thought as he took a seat next to Rin, nervousness beginning to set in even more as he shifted almost endlessly in his seat, gaze focused on his coffee. "You're fidgeting, Kouhei." "I-I'm nervous..." He admitted quietly to his partner, trying to still himself, wrapping his hands around the coffee cup. "You'll be fine, I'm positive it's nothing to worry about as you are." This earned a small smile from the boy, though he still found himself rather unconvinced, "Thank you..." You and I are partners in crime Several winding streets and a fond thought away, the boy occupying Kouhei's thoughts and fraying his nerves found himself awake to greet the dawn early that morning, albeit for very different reasons; here, where the first oncoming rays of sunlight strayed across sprawled-out legs and warmed the bedhead-struck teen to consciousness, there was no nagging uncertainty preventing Cecil from getting a nice, long rest, only old habits that never quite died - although he was never sure how they were born in the first place, either. Chalk it up to a strange personal quirk but for whatever reason Ceci rarely overslept and the only one who was capable of lulling him back to sleep once awoke was, as far as the blond knew, still dozing away in his own bed. Many years by Kou's side had taught him that the dark-haired tamer and early mornings did not usually mix, which was why he typically held off on sending his usual "Good morning. c:" text until the early afternoon when he could be pretty sure that it was not disturbing his boyfriend's shuteye. Even so...he couldn't help the tiny jolt of worry that ran through him every morning he woke up on his own, fearing that something could have happened overnight, and before he even shook his upper body free from the twist of covers clinging to his body, his hand snapped out to his bedside table to find his phone, entering the password with practiced ease and scanning the screen anxiously before breathing a sigh of relief once it sank in that there were no emergency messages that someone had found him and that he was going on the run again. The world was a dangerous place these days, but since Kouhei had left them to live on his own, it had only gotten more so for him. Freedom came with a hefty price tag of uncertainty, and the fear that someone under his so-called parents' employ could find him nagged at the blond whenever they were apart. A sudden smack to the back of his head nearly sent the phone clattering to the floor, the muffled force of the blow knocking those uneasy thoughts right out of his head. "The hell - Akihiko, what was that for?" He grumbled, rubbing the back of his neck and glaring at the avian digimon as he dropped the offending pillow - Kou's pillow, damn him - and hopped off the bed, feathers rustling in the early morning quiet as he wandered over to the window, pausing to glance back over his shoulder in reply. "You're worrying about nothing - if there's any trouble, Rin will protect him. You've gotta have a little more faith in us as partners." He said simply before sliding the window up and hopping out for his habitual morning flight, wings stirring up a cool gust of air that made Ceci shiver, drawing the covers still tangled around him a little tighter. He had to admit the rookie had a point - the Renamon kept Kou out of many a dangerous situation. Besides, dwelling on what could happen would only make those nagging fears that much stronger, and Kou wouldn't want him to worry so much. He smiled at the thought of the other and shook his head as he slid off the bed and shuffled over to the window to shut it, the breeze nipping at his skin one last time before he shut it out, tossing the covers back onto the bed on his way to the bathroom to start the day, completely oblivious to the anxiety plaguing the subject of is his wandering thoughts. One shower, a hastily eaten breakfast, and several hours later saw the blond strolling down the city blocks, one hand in his pocket hiding away from the lingering chill but a smile on his face as he clutched a small bag in the other - he hadn't really meant to buy anything today, but sometimes he got a little curious on his walks, and the small statue he'd found in one of the shops he peeked into was too perfect to pass up - when his phone yipped, drawing odd looks from a few nearby pedestrians as he drew it from his pocket, the grin on his face widening as he read the message and tapped out a reply. Lunch sounds great right about now, I'm starving! It's been a while since we've been there, I can't wait. I'll be right over, see you then! Love you. <3 He couldn't help but chuckle as he typed out the heart, feeling lame and sappy for adding it on...but who was he kidding? Those very words described him to a T. "So? Mind telling me who was right?" The Hawkmon trotting alongside him asked, a smirk in his voice as he folded his wings over his chest. He was too short to peek over the human's shoulder and read whatever message Kouhei had sent him, but he could see from the smile on the other's face that it was a good one. His partner only shook his head with a chuckle and ruffled rookie's feathers as he shoved his cell back into his pocket and picked up his pace, turning to follow a different street. Rolling his eyes, he kicked off the ground and flew after the teenager, wings flapping frantically to keep up with Cecil's newly energetic pace. "Hey wait, where are we going?" "Tsurumaki Woods! I just got myself a lunch date!" He threw back over his shoulder, checking the time on his phone every so often, glad that he wasn't too far from the familiar cafe. There were a lot of good memories in that restaurant, whether stopping in to grabbed a baked treat or for a full meal, as it was one of the first places he'd really started frequenting after moving to Tokyo and becoming friends with Kou. After so many visits there during their younger years he knew the way there by heart, so although traveling by foot was by no means the quickest way to get around, it was only ten minutes or so after one when he finally walked through the doors, Akihiko on his heels and sniffing at the air none too subtly for all his efforts to look disinterested in human food. Cecil grinned at him, mouthing "smells good, right?" at him as he approached one of the staff to ask if there was a handsome dark-haired boy about his age accompanied by a large, fluffy fox waiting on him, earning him a few blinks from the person in question at his obvious gushing before they nodded and told him which table Kouhei was seated at, and he gave them a cheerful thank you in return before making his way out toward the deck. Even with the beautiful foliage and open atmosphere to draw and distract one's eyes, there was no possible way to overlook the huge yellow fox longing comfortably at one of the tables, nor the head of familiar raven locks sitting beside him, hands wrapped around a cup of dark liquid. Coffee, perhaps? Grinning, Cecil half-sprinted toward the table, dancing out of the way of other patrons. "Sorry if I'm a little late, love. I figured it was easier to walk than head back home and borrow mum's car." He announced cheerfully, sliding into the seat opposite Kou and placing the bag on the table with a nod to the much larger of the two rookies. "Afternoon, Rin!" "I've been in a car with you driving. I'll stick to flying, thanks." Akihiko quipped, nodding at the other pair as he hopped up beside his tamer, only to let out a frustrated huff when his legs didn't reach all the way to the ground - again. "Come on, my driving's not that bad!" The teen protested, giving a fake pout before turning back to Kou with a warm smile. "I'm really glad you texted me, though - it feels like it's been forever since we've been able to grab lunch here. And since I saw you last." He added playfully, propping himself up by his elbows on the table to watch the other, a slight trill of worry returning as he did. There was definitely something a little off about Kou today...but, remembering his partner's earlier words about worrying over nothing, he held his tongue. Perhaps he was still tired, if he woke up early to plan all of this out...so long as it was not nightmares keeping him up or waking him before dawn again. We don't need anything else
