Artemisia Nikolaev
Artemisia Nikolaev Eighteen Neutral Arte, Izzy Darkness All FACE CLAIM: Yukino Yukinoshita ANIMANGA: Oregairu GENDER: Female HEIGHT: 5 ft 6 3/4 in. WEIGHT: 129 lbs APPEARANCE It is like looking up at the sky at dusk - when the baby blue sky slowly darkens, but still not yet resembling the night sky - looking into her eyes. There is a mix of grey to add to the color, though it does not distract from the blueness of her eyes. It is fitting, with her long, raven colored hair; darker than her eyes but not yet entirely black as the night. Her hair, though long, is usually left down, with only a couple of red ribbons - tied into bows - to hold only a portion of her hair back. When it is not left down, it is up in a ponytail; though she does nothing different to her bangs, allowing them to fall over her forehead though never long enough to get into her eyes. Though she puts her hair into other styles as well, those two are the most common because it is what she likes best and they are her go-to styles for when she doesn't want to do anything with her hair, which could be considered pretty often. Artemisia has both her ears pierced, one on her left ear and two on her right; one near the bottom and the other near the top side, just below the curve of her ear. Most of the time, she will wear two earrings; but wears the third on occasion, just so the hole doesn't close. Otherwise, she has no distinguishable marks on her. She is of an athletic build - her lean, slender figure neither stick thin nor too big; a healthy size for an eighteen year old girl. As is, she dislikes wearing tight clothing, though finds those that are form-fitting to be comfortable enough to wear. Her style is simple, at best, for she dislikes dealing with the hassle that comes with being considered 'fashionable'; yet she doesn't always just wear what's comfortable. Artemisia has a mix of 'trendy and stylish' and 'laid back sweats' styles in her wardrobe. Much like her hairstyles, when she does not want to worry about what to wear or the hassle of picking an outfit out for the day, she settles for a pair of pants - usually jeans - and a casual sort of button up with her sleeves rolled up to near her elbows. Her shoes namely consist of sneakers, converse and boots, with flats once in a while. When she doesn't feel entirely casual, she can be seen wearing a skirt and blouse with a cardigan or blazer, or a dress; though when she wears either a skirt or dress, she must have something underneath like a pair of boy shorts, otherwise she feels uncomfortable exposed. The shoes she tends to wear with such outfits include flats, wedges and the occasional high heels - though she tends to reserve those for the formal types of occasions, such as a wedding. 10 hobbies 10. origami 9. yoga 8. gardening – specifically flowers 7. tree climbing and rock climbing 6. scrapbooking 5. reading – mainly novels, epics, poems and Roman and Greek mythology 4. playing on her violin 3. photography 2. going onto/being on the roof 1. stargazing – astronomy and cosmology 9 adjectives Adhesive. She is adhesive, like tape and glue, strong and keeping things together. She is strong for those who need her to be, to hold everything together for them. Like when her sister died, for example. She had been the one who made sure everyone was okay; that they were on their way to heal. Even if it meant she didn’t had time to properly grieve or heal herself. She tries not to cry though, because when wet, the tape and glue don’t stick anymore. For, just like tape and glue, she can fall apart too – though she tries her hardest not to. Restrained. She holds herself back, from everything that she does. It leaves her considered mediocre, though she knows she can do better. When making friends, she can’t bring herself to just let go and show her true self, instead keeping a part of her hidden, away from sight. She is her own worst enemy and the only thing, at the moment, that is standing in her own way. Tuned-in. She is scholarly, well-read and knowledgeable on a good amount of subjects. Intelligent and able to hold a conversation of what can be considered difficult material, especially when such material includes her favorite things to do, like astrology. She is far from a genius though, just learning what she can from life, whether it’s through reading a novel, a history book, the newspaper, watching the news or even listening to others. Empathetic. She is empathetic, meaning she is able to understand, or at least tries to, how others feel. It makes her sympathetic to their endeavors and troubles, and it also makes her considerate of others. She may not always truly understand, but she really does try and is always a good shoulder to lean on for a friend. Melancholy. A very thoughtful girl, and no, not in the sense like above. It’s more as an ‘in deep thought’ type of thoughtful. She likes to understand things and motives and reasons, and so tends to contemplate a lot of things. It doesn’t make her indecisive, just contemplative. Though, at times, she does seem to have this sad, depressed sort of aura around her. This is what gets her lost in thought and gives her that morose feeling at times. Insightful. She knows to look past the first impression and even the second impression. She knows there is so much more to everyone and everything than they know and so always tries to see that something that’s there. Like the darkness, there’s always something past what is there. It’s what makes her knowledgeable and wise and fair; because she tries to see past what people pretend to be and see them for who they really are. Self-deprecating. It’s more than just modesty; she doesn’t believe in herself like she probably should. Her confidence is little, though there are times when it may seem as if she believes herself to be the queen of the world. Every mistake weighs more than every accomplishment for her and it makes it hard for her to see herself as someone good. She can see it in others when they don’t see it themselves, but not for her. It’s always harder, trying to believe in yourself. Intricate. She’s not the easiest person to understand or even speak to at times; but it’s just because she is a complex person. Really though, everyone is complex in some way or another – she just tends to be a bit more obviously complex than others. Because she holds herself back, there is no real way to gauge her and her abilities or true personality. It leaves a mystery behind and makes it difficult to understand her. The way she thinks about things though, isn’t always the usual sort of way, so maybe she is just a complex person. Adamant. Determined and stubborn, she dislikes giving up in the middle of something, or just in general, because of this trait. It makes her see things through and, when in an argument, makes her stand her ground even when if she doesn’t think highly of herself, just because she is stubborn and refuses to back down. 8 basics Full Name: Artemisia Isis Nikolaev Date of Birth: 27 December Age: Eighteen Gender: Female Nationality: Bulgarian, French Fluency: French, Japanese and some Bulgarian Status: High-middle class Occupation: Freshman College Student / part-time waitress at a nearby café 7 weaknesses 7. dislikes burdening others with her troubles, so she may not always get help when she needs it; tends to keep her own troubles to herself, even if others are coming to her for help. 6. when woken up early in the morning, can’t ‘function’ properly until she has a cup of coffee or tea. 5. sometimes she can be a bit morose, though she doesn’t always realize it; especially in the way she speaks (her tone, rather) – but she’s not entirely a hopeful person either. 4. guilt complex – blames herself a lot for things out of her control. 3. sometimes ends up overanalyzing or overthinking on something when the motive/action/reason doesn’t make sense to her. 2. can be slightly awkward at times, especially when around a crowd of people where she doesn’t know many others or when around someone she likes. 1. has a tendency to get lost in thoughts and/or memories, when she knows/thinks she’s alone. 6 strengths 6. is mature and not naïve – she is well-read and intelligent, thus is unable to be so easily tricked (not very gullible); she also has some patience when dealing with most things. 5. tries to understand motives and actions and so tends to be forgiving if she does, or is close to, understanding. 4. tries to be fair and unbiased in her opinions and doesn’t like to judge others until she gets to know them. 3. is generally considerate and tries to be aware of how others feel and their motives/goals. 2. doesn’t leave things half-done or partially finished; she likes to finish what she starts. 1. strategic and of calm mind in the worst of situations, even though it may not seem like she is. 5 habits 5. people watcher – tends to watch people and notices their own habits (and to go with number one below, likens or compares them to a habit of a character or someone else). 4. tends to straighten out things that are crooked or not in the ‘right’ position – i.e. a crooked pencil on a desk; or a fork at her table at a restaurant. 3. dislikes the sound of chewing, so she tends to play music or hum when she is eating. 2. stays up late into the night, even when she’s tired – sleeps only when it is after 11:59pm, which makes her a late riser. 1. has an odd tendency to quote or refer to the things she’s read and liken/compare things to other things; i.e. an event in real life to that in a book or mentioned in a poem (like having a broken heart or something). 4 relationships Father: Antonin Nikolaev, 47, alive Mother: Giselle Samson, 51, alive Brother: Viktor Nikolaev, 24, alive Sister: Diana Nikolaev, 16, deceased 3 fears 3. being isolated for a long amount of time – being forgotten. 2. claustrophobic to a certain extent – the feeling of being trapped. 1. if she ends up letting everything go, that she’ll break and she won’t be strong enough to put herself back together or even to pick up the pieces. 2 dreams 2. wants her scrapbook to be able to be meaningful; for each moment caught on camera to mean something special, for the memories to mean something for herself, her family and friends. 1. doesn’t want to hold herself back anymore; she doesn’t want to be her own worst enemy that stands in her way. 1 word dark • adjective \ˈdärk\ : having very little or no lightDarkness isn’t evil, for nothing is inherently evil. It just attracts evil. Most people don’t see that, because they don’t like to believe that anything considered ‘dark’ could be good. That’s not true – what about the night, for example? If the night weren’t dark, then we wouldn’t see the moon or the stars; astrology would not even exist. I’ve never been afraid of the dark for this very reason – for the fact that without the dark, we would be missing the beauty in everything. We wouldn’t be able to see the stars or the moon. We wouldn’t be able to rest and dream – because we dream when we sleep, and we sleep at night, don’t we? When the sun falls and the moon rises; isn’t this darkness too? But it’s beautiful, in its entire entirety. I love the dark, because it shows us the beauty of the world that we cannot see, or that we miss, in the light of day. The night, the dark, never fails to remind me that there is always more than meets the eye – that somewhere deeper, there is something beautiful and unattainable by those who do not wish to see. It is beautiful, because even as it is rejected and feared and hated, it still has the strength to show us what we cannot see in the light. It is safe, the dark. It wraps around us, secure and warm like a blanket in the winter. It hides all our flaws and weaknesses from prying eyes. It is a cover; protective but secure. It allows us to be comfortable in our own skin because there is no light to display our scars, our flaws, our weaknesses out for the world to see. Is that not what light does – display things out in the open so they are no longer hidden? It is cruel and harsh, unforgiving as it exposes all we wish to hide and keep to ourselves for we are humans and are incapable of the perfect standards we have for ourselves and each other. I love the dark, because then I am free and able to be myself without the worry of prying eyes. It protects me from the judgment I know we all fear as humans. It is my cover; it is my freedom. But even I know that darkness isn’t perfect. It is difficult to escape, but I’m not sure I even want to try. It wraps around us, leaving us lost inside, unable to find a way out. It attracts evil and those inside are so susceptible because by then, all we want to do it get out. Once we do, it’s like we’re an entirely different person, for darkness changes you. It’s destructive. But it’s beautiful still. Darkness and light, they are like twins. Darkness can be destructive, but it can also be kind, protective and beautiful. Light is beautiful, kind and safe, but it can also be hideous. They are the same, linked to one another; just…perceived differently. For what is light, without darkness? ROLEPLAY SAMPLE Blue eyes, so reminiscent of the color of dusk, glanced at the topic of the paper she was writing, re-reading the assignment once more for the third time in the past seven minutes. She looked at her unfinished paper, glancing down at it with a furrowed brow, eyes narrowed in concentration. The only sound around her is that of the chirping crickets and passing cars below. The world is dark, still and silent, but she didn't feel even an ounce of fear as she glanced out the window, up at the star-filled skies. Instead, she felt calm, reassured and safe because the darkness is her cover. It hides her flaws and weaknesses from everyone but her; it keeps them safe when she cannot. The sound of pen scratching against paper echoed in the silence of the night, as she crossed out her paper once more. With a sigh, she took the assignment, her notebook, her camera and climbed out the window. It's her favorite place to be, the roof, because it gives her a new view of everything and brings her even closer to the stars. The north star shone brightly above her, twinkling merrily. A smile spread across her features because it is beautiful and there is never anything like the starry, night sky. Even as her gaze lowered to the city, she was struck by the sheer beauty of it. No longer was it the bustling, crowded streets; filled with shouts and children’s laughter – a hassle to get through at any point in time in the day. Instead, in its place, it was like flickering lights, splashes of color and beautiful, against the surrounding darkness. She took a picture of the scene with the camera she always has with her – a mix between the digital age and the old fashioned cameras. There is no flash because such brilliance could only be captured in the cover of the darkness. By her side, rest her pen and notebook, which held her assignment paper inside. She lifted her camera once more, this time up to the constellations and stars that she knew and loved to draw out in the sky, before snapping a picture of what she knew to be the Leo constellation. She had always been a night owl, staying up late at night. She should probably be working on her assignment, but she enjoyed taking photos and picking out the constellations much more than her homework. She would get it done though; because that's just who she is and she hated leaving things unfinished - even something as mundane as a homework assignment. With another sigh, her dusk-blue eyes glance up once more, determined to find at least one more constellation before she sets to work on her assignment on the roof of her new house. It wasn't difficult, maybe even a bit simple for someone like her, who dealt with complex readings more often than not. It wasn't entirely easy, understanding Homer's The Iliad or most of Shakespeare's works, after all. She takes note that the Sagittarius constellation, snapping a quick picture before returning back to her assignment. With her camera placed around her neck, safely, she read through the assignment for the fourth time. Artemisia knew she was overthinking about it, and so took a deep breath before beginning once more. It was nearly midnight - she had enough time before she would do to sleep. As she works on her assignment, Arte couldn't help but think, maybe, just maybe, the move wouldn't be so bad after all. |
